Dating Rights and Responsibilities

by Candis Twede

How many of us as teenagers were told what our rights were when it came to dating? Many of us were thrown into the dating world without so much as a hint of what we were in for.
The following are some alarming statistics from a website titled www.nomeansknow.com:
Know 1 in 3 teens in a dating relationship have been verbally, emotionally, sexually or physically abused.

Know 1 in 2 teens have compromised their values to please their partner .

Know 1 in 5 teens in a dating relationship have been hit, slapped, or pushed .

My daughter’s prom boutonniere included a small folded card the size of a credit card produced by this same company that contained some excellent information. This is what it said:

I deserve:

  • To always be treated with respect.
  • To maintain my individuality.
  • To have friends and activities apart from my boyfriend or girlfriend.
  • To say no.
  • To change my mind at anytime.
  • To refuse sex or affection at anytime.
  • To not be hurt physically or emotionally.
  • To end a relationship.

I will:

  • Always treat my boyfriend or girlfriend with respect.
  • Never hurt my boyfriend or girlfriend physically, verbally, or emotionally.
  • Respect my girlfriend’s or boyfriend’s decisions concerning sex and affection,
  • Not be controlling or manipulative in my relationship.
  • Accept responsibility for myself and my actions.
  • Respect myself.

This same information holds to us as adults. Share this information with your teenagers, with your partner or spouse and Stand for who you are and don’t be afraid to say NO!

JUST Breathe

by Candis Twede

Ever feel like you are on a treadmill and you can't stop it to get off?

That is how my life has been the last week.  Between getting ready for taxes, recitals, concerts, registration meetings for sports.....etc, I haven't any spare time it seems and NO time for me.  I haven't even had the time to get on my REAL treadmill to start my New Years resolution.

I found myself saying "if I can just get through with my tax stuff...things will calm down...".  Well, it hasn't really, everything else in line has just slid down right into place behind the other items in my life.

So what do you do?  JUST BREATHE!

Sit back, and take a DEEP breath (a really deep one) and then blow it all out. Then talk a look at the items you "have to" get done today.  In between a couple of those items...MAKE a space for "YOU TIME".  It doesn't have to be long.  It could simply be 5 minutes on the sofa with a cup of hot chocolate or your favorite candybar (my favorites).  Something that "takes you away"...a bath with aroma therapy and candles is even nice.  Find that something that lets you catch your breath.  For some of you, all it may take is that deep breath.

It is amazing what that will do for your day.  JUST BREATHE!

HELP........ me!!!

by Candis Twede

OKAY......it is March.

Remember those "New" Years resolutions we ALL talked about starting....TIME TO START!  AND that includes ME.

BUT, I would like to do this together.  One of biggest things that contribute to our failures in accomplishing those resolutions is not having anyone to be accountable to....so I've decided to be accountable to YOU.  You are more than welcome to participate in my new "adventure", JOIN in even by adding comments, questions, and even praises for ALL OUR Successes in each of our various goals.  In any case, I will be reporting HERE on how my Resolution is progressing.

What have I chosen?

To get healthier.  OKAY OKAY OKAY....it will also involve getting rid of those unwanted extra bulges in areas that they shouldn't be.  Ya happy?  I AM.

My husband & I have been working in our basement to finish off a room to house the "exercise" equipment since November.  (It was a little bigger project than just that room...we have a daughter heading off to college in the fall who wanted her OWN room too).  Anyway, we finally finished and moved all the equipment in last week.  The treadmill and elliptical machines were previously housed in our bedroom...(I know)...and because it isn't very big...you had to do some serious moving around of equipment in order to use it.   What a pain.  Now the moving around will be me getting myself down the stairs to the back of the house, put on the shoes etc and get started.  You know, that is the hardest part...pausing what you are doing and just STARTING..

I'm a little nervous about doing this publicly...but perhaps this "accountability" will be just what I need to give my goal the BOOST it needs.

Wish me luck, pray for me, send me those "you can succeed" vibes...I'm going to need it.  Oh yea....add comments to my blogs...every little bit will help.

Till tomorrow.
